Things To Do in Naivasha – Destinations
1.Hell’s Gate National Park
The name itself should be enough to spark someone’s curiosity and provoke your spirit of adventure. Hells Gate National Park takes a significant portion of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. It is a perfect destination for your one-day trip to Naivasha – especially if you love adventure.
Hells Gate National Park is mostly loved because it has different types of animals including the very rare lammergeyer vultures (bearded vultures). It has spectacular scenery for your photography sessions. Such include stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes, the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, and belching plumes of the geothermal steam which makes to be one of the most impressive parks in Africa.
Things to do at Hell’s Gate National Park
- Hiking
- Cycling
- Motorcycling
- Trekking
- Visiting the Hot Springs
- Camping is also possible within the park
- Rock climbing or abseiling at the Fischer’s Tower is always a thrilling experience
- The Park is surrounded by many camping sites which offer other fun activities such as water sports and boat riding
2.Olkaria Geothermal SPA
Nothing beats the relaxation that comes with swimming in the therapeutic Olkaria Geothermal Hot Spa. The best part about this is that you don’t have to be a swimmer to enjoy the therapeutic effects of the hot spa. Just step into the pool and let the water work its magic by helping you achieve the ultimate relaxation experience and peace of mind.
Olkaria Geothermal Spa is located inside Hell’s Gate National Park. It offers recreational, relaxing, therapeutic, and hot swimming in its aesthetic pool that blends with nature. The pool’s source of water is geothermal or rather brine which is obtained from natural underground wells within the Olkaria Geothermal field.
The hot geothermal water is first passed through a receiving pond at a temperature of around 90 degrees centigrade. This natural pond cannot be used for swimming due to the high temperatures. The water then flows to a second pond at a temperature of about 60 oC where it cools further. This pond cannot be used for swimming too. The water cools naturally to around 30 – 40 oC and then released into the third pool (main) under regular monitoring. This blue lagoon pool is usable for swimming.
The water cools further as it flows to the entire pool including the baby pool (away from entry point). This means if one want to enjoy the hottest spa moments they have to swim near the hot water entry point. We also noticed that the water is hotter on the surface as compared to the bottom due to the laws of nature (hot water rises).
Geothermal Spa Benefits
One experience the therapeutic moments of the Olkaria Geothermal Spa and have get the chance to relax, unwind, and revitalize their bodies, mind, and soul after a tiresome week. One also gets the opportunity to experience the cool, clean, and fresh air by the relaxing on the poolside chairs.
Swimming in the warm geothermal water has been found to have various health benefits. The water is rich in silica and Sulphur which cure such diseases as Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, psoriasis and many others. The natural hot spa thus offers skin treatment with no side effects found.
3.Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp
Your one day trip to Naivasha is not complete without enjoying the ambience of Lake Naivasha. In fact, spice things up and go camping instead! I mean what’s more glorious than watching the sunset as it kisses the waters of the freshwater lake? Just the thought of it makes me feel nostalgic already!
The best part about this is that the trip from Nairobi to Lake Naivasha is only four hours long on average. This means that you can still get off work on a Friday afternoon and enjoy some fun activities in Naivasha on the same day. For the best camping experience, go to Crescent Camp, Fisherman’s Camp, or Oloiden Camp.
Lake Naivasha Crescent Camp is located on the shores of a vast freshwater lake in Kenya. The camp is strategically located by the lake in order to give guests the best possible chance to watch the wildlife. The camp is very popular with both amateur and professional photographers for the opportunities it offers to capture the surrounding birdlife on film.
There are many other activities on offer, as well, including boat trips and watersports on the lake, nature walks, game viewing, hiking, and biking. Did we mention sharing intimate moments by the bonfire while watching the moonlight?
When looking for a fun getaway, look no further than Naivasha. There are many free places to visit in Naivasha and you don’t have to break the bank to afford a 1 day trip to Naivasha. The Lake Naivasha National Park entrance fee is Ksh. 430 for citizens, Ksh. 1030 for residents and $43 USD for non-residents. It is also fully dependent on your entry point since Lake Naivasha by itself is not a park.
As you can see, a one day trip Naivasha offers a lot of awesome adventures and is a good point to get started before going for a full African Safari.
