About This Tour
Have you ever dreamt of standing on the roof of Kenya (tallest mountain in the country), witness the African sunrise paint the sky with a thousand shades of colours? This is your chance! Our specially crafted 4 days Mt Kenya Climbing Sirimon Route expedition is designed to take you on a wonderful journey through diverse landscapes, climaxing in the achievement of reaching Point Lenana (4985m).
Point Lenana is the third highest peak but the most accessible without expert mountaineering gear. The other two peaks Nelion (5188m) and Batian (5199m) require mountaineering expertise with good skills in rock climbing. Batian is the actual Mt Kenya summit but most the time refer to Point Lenana as the summit.
The Sirimon Route comes from the Sirimon River which is one of the main rivers on this side of Mt. Kenya. Our local guides, most of whom were born and raised around the mountain, have more than 10 years experience on this route and they have Sirimon route Mount Kenya map at the back of their hands.
The Sirimon route Mount Kenya distance is 25.3 km in total one way from Sirimon Gate to Point Lenana. This is covered as follows; Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp - 9km (day 1), Old Moses to Shiptons Camp - 14 km (day 2) , and Shiptons to Point Lenana (2.3 km) which is followed by decent to either Chogoria route or back Sirimon route.
The Sirimon route Mount Kenya difficulty is moderate to high as the elevation increases faster.
Mt Kenya has a lot of cultural significance to the Kikuyu tribesmen because it is considered to be the homestead of their Supreme Being; Ngai. This name is also used by Kamba community and closely related to Maasai's Enkai. The Kikuyu name for Mt Kenya is Kirinyaga which means the Mountain of Brightness.
