The Longonot crater is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Kenya and it in deed provides an excellent hike. It is preferred by most of the hiking groups in Kenya for its moderate climbing difficulty.
Going up the 2100m mountain and taking the seven and a half km round circuit trek around the crater (optional) is one of the most fun ways to spend a free day. The view from the top of the crater across the Great Rift Valley and plains, Lake Naivasha, and Aberdare Ranges in the backdrop gives you a sensational experience.
This hike is easy to moderately easy if taken slowly and any average hiker can reach the top in about 1 hour and two more hours walking round the crater rim.
For the adventurous trekkers, the crater has an interesting chance of abseiling although you may be needed to carry your own equipment and assistance from a local guide.
